"Buzzard Concerns Delay Plans For 'Body Farm'"

In the United States, there are only two body farms, places where forensic students can study how human bodies decompose. Texas State University in San Marcos (between Austin and San Antonio), wants to build a third body farm, but there was a problem with their first choice of location.

Buzzards.

As KSAT-TV reports, those buzzards (which would be attracted to seemingly easy meals) would pose a risk to nearby flight paths.

Texas State's proposed 17-acre site was on Texas Highway 21 near the San Marcos Municipal Airport. But after meeting with the airport's commission Tuesday, the university quashed the plan out of concerns that buzzards would pose a risk to pilots.

"While the increased risk might be very small, it cannot be completely eliminated, and we cannot go forward with the Highway 21 site," Texas State provost Perry Moore said.

The body farm is on hold for now, I guess until they can come up with another site.
