"Eyewear pitchman Yuchnitz dead"

Remember a few years ago when local salesman-of-cheap-eyeglasses and all 'round character Mike Yuchnitz was charged with conspiring to kill his wife? Well, he's gonna miss his trial.

He has died.
Michael Yuchnitz, 60, was found in the parking lot of the InTown Suites in the 6400 block of Bandera Road after he apparently collapsed in a slightly hidden area between a car and some landscaping, said Leon Valley Police Chief Randall Wallace.

"It was in a position where you had to walk very closely to see (him)," Wallace added.

A maintenance man discovered Yuchnitz's body as he did his usual rounds at the extended stay hotel, Wallace said. Yuchnitz was unresponsive.

There was no trauma and police said the death appeared to be a natural.

Whether or not you will miss him, the fact remains that no one in this town has ever pulled off a red Nehru jacket and matching fedora quite like Yuchnitz di--- ... OK, never mind. He didn't pull it off either.

Doing laundry

Did you ever have the pleasure (or duty) of hanging wet clothing on a clothesline? If so, then you are well familiar with the tedious task of backyard laundry. And you know that nothing could make that chore lively at all.

Unless you did it at night, that is. And you got stabbed while doing it.
A woman is stabbed in her backyard while doing laundry late Friday night.

Police say the woman was stabbed at her home on Albert Street near Culebra Road around 9:00pm.

We're told someone walked up to her and stabbed her in the stomach.  Officers don't know who the person was or why he did it.

I'm guessing alcohol was invovled. Or hallucinogens.

Someone who should have thought a little more

About his choice of shirt, that is.

The 29-year-old suspect, who wasn't immediately identified by police, told reporters he knew the trailer belonged to a local Boy Scout Troop as he was being led out of the N[or]th Side substation where he was questioned be detectives.

The suspect said he needed the money and said he was sorry for stealing from the Scouts.

Seriously, if you are thinking about beginning a career as a petty criminal you might want to start investing in plain clothing. And you might want to start wearing said clothing all the time. You know, just in case.

It's hard to be sexy and you know it when you're wearing PD jewelry.

"Screaming man pulled from Mission San José"

Now here's something you don't expect to see in an old Spanish mission in San Antonio:

A Heat fan.
Father Tony Posadas, pastor of Mission San José, said the man entered the roped-off sanctuary and started to move furniture around to create a private prayer area for himself.

Park rangers noticed and told him to move away, but he became violent, throwing furniture and toppling potted plants in the sanctuary, Posadas said.

Authorities used pepper spray and a stun gun to subdue the man, Posadas said, then took him away in handcuffs around 12:30 p.m. — about 90 minutes after his outburst began.

Someone who should think a little more when dressing

If you decide to embark upon a life of crime, you might want to seriously consider what you're wearing when you commit your illegal deeds. You know, in case you get caught after trying to carjack someone. And you get put on television wearing your Stewie-as-thug T-shirt.

(from KSAT-12)

Of course, if you're the cop who gets to escort this guy out in front of the cameras, you might want to put something on over your Coors Light shirt. That takes some consideration, too.

Gettin' western on San Pedro

I've seen dudes fight. And I've seen girls fight. But I don't think I've ever seen both at the same time.

In the same fight.
A fistfight broke out overnight in a convenience store parking lot right next to a KENS 5 news truck, and one of the two combatants was later arrested.

San Antonio police had to use a taser on a transgender individual who had been involved in the heated fight in the 800 block of San Pedro early Monday morning.

Investigators said the suspect hurled a shoe at them after their conversation reached a boiling point.
(from KENS-5)

I don't know what they were fighting about, but the KENS-5 photog got some pretty good footage, which you can see at the link above.

Grabbin' the tongue

Watch out who you point your tongue at. Especially if they are in a bad mood and perhaps a bit out of control.

San Antonio police arrested a man Friday who is accused of pulling a boy's tongue during in argument with the boy's mother.

Investigators said Chadwick Benoit, 38, pulled the 12-year-old's tongue because the boy stuck it out at him.

The San Antonio Express-News reported the boy got in between Benoit and his mother during the argument.

Bonus strangeness: The fancy monogram of the Bexar County Adult Detention Center, visible in this photo.

Actually, that's kind of cool. It shows that the County is saving some bucks in these hard times by making do with plain white T-shirts and black markers.

And, in case Anonymous wants to argue with me, I definitely think that picture is a mug shot.

Someone who should have gripped a little more

There's a reason cartoon burglars are depicted with sacks on their backs. It makes it easier to carry their ill-gotten loot.

Really, it does.
Officers say the two suspects pried open the back door of a Burlington Coat Factory store on Southwest Military early Wednesday morning.
Then, in their haste to get away, they dropped several items. All officers had to do was follow a trail of stolen backpacks and clothing to a nearby apartment where both men were arrested.
(from KENS-5)

Couldn't they have at least put the clothing in the backpacks?

Rooting for the home team

"El Grande," a major drug cartel figure, was captured by the Mexican military.
MEXICO CITY — Mexican special forces marines captured Sergio Villarreal Barragan, allegedly a top member of the embattled Beltran Leyva cartel who appears on a list of the country's most-wanted fugitives, in a raid Sunday in the central state of Puebla, the government said.
Villarreal, known as "El Grande," did not put up any resistance when he was arrested along with two accomplices as they left a residence in Puebla city, according to government security spokesman Alejandro Poire. The raid involved 30 Navy marines, five vehicles and a helicopter.
(from MSNBC.com)

So, why is a lowly blog about strange things in San Antonio pointing this story out to you, since it took place in Mexico? Because of the fashion displayed by the fugitive.

Go Spurs Go, way down in Mexico!

Looking like a fool

... with your pants on the ground.

Really, guys. Isn't it about time to retire the saggy pants look?
A San Antonio police officer was following his instincts when he spotted a young man coming out of some shrubbery at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night. It just seemed suspicious.
Police say when they began to approach, the man took off running and at the same time dropped a bag of marijuana.
In the foot-chase that followed, the suspect cleared several fences even after the officer yelled at him to stop.
According to the report, the officer was able to grab hold of the suspect, but then the suspect started punching at him.
In an effort to control the suspect, the officer used pepper spray on him, but it seemed to have little or no effect.
Finally, in the 1200 block of East Carson, near Fort Sam, the officer again made a grab at the suspect. He brought out his tactical baton, and hit the suspect several times on his arms and 'non-vital areas'. This too was met with continued efforts to escape.
But this time the suspect's shorts, that were now wrapped around his ankles, bungle[d] his attempts, and the suspect fell head first onto the pavement.
(from KENS-5)

Can't get away if you can't run.

Oh, and the suspect had left a one-year-old child unattended in his apartment. With a hot iron in reach. And pot traces everywhere.

Parent of the year material.

"Cross-dressing robbery suspect arrested"

This was a good disguise, but, eventually, not good enough.
There was something familiar about Quincy Jack after San Antonio police booked him in a July 28 holdup at a North Side credit union, police said. After sifting through old surveillance photos of other robberies, detectives found a photo of what appeared to be a female suspect wearing a dress, according to an affidavit for arrest warrant.
A closer look at the “woman” involved in the March 13, 2008, heist at the Wells Fargo bank in the 100 block of Northeast Loop 410 showed a striking resemblance to 22-year-old Jack.
After detectives returned to the Wells Fargo recently, employees there said they recalled that the woman who held them up in 2008 had an “Adam's apple.”
Bank employees picked Jack out of a photo lineup.

Peace and love and good happiness stuff

If you think there might be an outside chance you could be wanted for murder, you might want to rethink your decision to put on that shirt with a peace sign on it. You know, in case they actually catch you. While you're wearing that shirt. And there are news cameras around.

KSAT-12 reports on the peace-sign-wearing suspect.

SAN ANTONIO -- A 36-year-old man was charged with murder early Friday in the slaying of his younger brother.
Israel Mora made an appearance around 3 a.m. before a magistrate, where he was formally charged.
Police said that Mora wrestled a gun away from his sibling, Miguel Mora, 22, and then shot him in the head, neck, leg and chest.
