Any bets on where this money will end up being spent?A collaborative effort between three San Antonio groups could cost alcoholic beverage consumers some extra pocket change one drink at a time as the San Antonio Police Department, along with the city of San Antonio and Metro Health, is working on an initiative intended to battle alcohol abuse and drunken driving in the Alamo City.
The initiative proposes a ten-cent fee on every alcoholic beverage purchased and consumed as well as increased legal penalties and tougher state enforcement level.

Okay... most of the time that I ever encountered friends that drove drunk... it wasn't after going to a bar or club... however, it was almost always after drinking LOTS of beer (cheaply, I might add) at someone's home. Are people in our city going to be naive enough to believe that this will solve the problems of alcohol abuse and drunk driving? I agree, this is just another way for our city to tax people and allot the money elsewhere...
Not even an "A" for effort. What that means is that over the course of a night, some poor barkeep is gonna get 60 cents less in tips from each binge drinker who visits his establishment on a fixed income.
Call me cheap, but the reason I don't drink at bars is because the beer is already $2.50 to $6.00 depending on where you go. Why is a dime more gonna change someone willing to pay that kind of money in the first place.
Now if they raise the tax on that six pack of Milwaukee's Best Light I get for $4.00, I'll have a dern hissy-fit!
