Buying your vote with brisket

At least it seems that way in the Harlandale Independent School District.

SAN ANTONIO – News 4 has discovered a very strange voting fraud allegation. A man claims he was bribed with barbecue in exchange for his vote.

A political activist committee wanting Harlandale ISD's tax referendum to pass was handing out tickets for barbecue brisket to go.

(from WOAI-TV)

I really can't imagine that anyone would actually vote a certain way just because they got some free barbecue. That would have to be some exceptionally good brisket! And the pinto beans had better be freakin' out of this world!

So, just think about it -- whose brisket would be even remotely scrumptuous enough to make you consider voting a certain way?

Simple!
Don't take the ticket if your heart is not in it to vote for what others feel is a good cause.

I guess handing out bumper stickers and pens for candidates would also be a form of bribery to you as well? Which by the way is allowed?

Now why can’t the polls be a place for all representatives to bring their offerings for their city voter’s support? Who would actually know if you voted “for it” or “against it” anyway?

You should have considered yourself lucky to have such an offering at your poll if you were for the cause. If you weren’t, then don’t hate on the idea. You could have just walked away. It’s called “people’s choice”.

“Come on”, stop and breath a little, it’s good for your health. This is your home town. Either way, pre register voters were 60% for the cause which boosted our lead to winning the peoples vote, and we didn’t get a BBQ Plate.

Smile!

Anonymous 3:29, thanks for stopping by. I get your point that a ticket for a free barbeque plate is no different than bumper stickers or pens, but stickers and pens are common giveaways in campaigns. Brisket is not. That's a little strange, and that's why this story landed on my blog.

And, no, you need to stop and breathe a little. I am not denigrating your or your cause. I'm merely highlighting something a bit out of the ordinary. Consider yourself lucky you got a little more publicity!
