"Poteet City Council Removes Indicted Mayor From Office"

Finally.

From KSAT-12:

POTEET, Texas -- Mayor Lino Donato, indicted and arrested last week on charges he had improper contact with a child, was removed from his position Monday evening by the Poteet City Council.

The council voted to vacate Donato's position, as he had not been to three consecutive meetings without an excused absence. Donato was already on probation after pleading guilty less than a year ago to similar charges.

And a small town south of here sighs with relief.

[Earlier stuff here.]

I can't believe that they let it drag on for this long.

In the small town where I grew up, he would have already had some friendly visitors who would have told him it was time for him to leave and never show his face again.

A form of vigilantism perhaps, which is not always a bad thing, and no violence was ever actually done. But some truly unsavory characters were gotten rid of that way.

And this guy seems to typify "unsavory". It's too bad his kind can't take a hint and leave when their welcome has run out.
